Lot Size
Memory Anchor
Why going back to smaller lot size feels painful — and how professionals use smaller size to protect the account.
Lot Size Memory Anchor
Once your mind gets used to trading a bigger lot size, going back to a smaller lot feels like going backward — even though it is actually protecting your account.
0.01 → 0.05 → 0.10
Drawdown: 0.10 → 0.05, but the mind resists.
Previous lot size is history. Current account condition is reality.
Why Smaller Lot Feels Painful
Brain adapts to this number as “normal.”
Same trade. Brain calls this “wasted.”
“If I used 0.10, I would recover faster.”
This ignores one critical fact: if the next trade is SL, 0.10 also loses faster.
Professional Trader Thinking
“What lot size did I trade before?”
Driven by ego and memory. Ignores current account state.
“What lot size does my current account condition allow?”
Driven by data and logic. Adapts to reality.
Professionals do not trade memory. They trade reality.
Same Market. Two Outcomes.
Normal lot: 0.10 — both traders take the same stop loss.
0.10
Keeps 0.10 to recover fast.
After another SL: damage = big.
0.05
Reduces because account is in protection mode.
After another SL: damage = controlled.
The professional may recover slower — but survives longer.
In trading, the trader who survives gets more chances.
Smaller Lot Is Defensive Mode
A soldier does not run forward when bullets are heavy.
He takes cover first. Then attacks later.
Take cover.
Reduce lot size. Protect capital first.
Rebuild.
Trade smaller until conditions improve.
Attack slowly.
Scale back up with proven stability.
The Four Professional Modes
“I am not reducing because I am weak.
I am reducing because my account is under protection.”
This makes smaller lot size feel normal — it is not failure. It is just a different mode.
Decide The Rule Before Trading
Professionals decide their reduction rule before trading — not after a loss. That pre-decision removes ego from the equation.
Normal lot: 0.10
After 1 SL: 0.05
After 2 SLs: 0.02
After 3 SLs: 0.01 or stop
After emotional mistake: 0.001 or no trade
The rule is already decided. That removes ego from the decision.
How To Return To Bigger Lot
Do NOT return from 0.05 to 0.10 after just one winning trade. Increase only after stability is proven.
✓ 2 clean wins
✓ Recover 50–70% drawdown
✓ One full rule-following day
Not directly panic-jump back to 0.10.
The Simple MSL Formula
Increase slowly.
Reduce quickly.
Reset fully.
Bigger lot is earned by stability — not by desire.
The lot size must follow account condition, not trader ego.
Structure
> Emotion.
The market does not care that you were once trading 0.10 lot.
If your account is in drawdown, 0.10 may no longer be correct.
Small lot is not small mindset.
Small lot is survival mode.
Survival mode keeps the trader alive until the next clean opportunity.
